It’s incredible to think that only a mere 5 weeks ago we held our inaugural First Tuesdays Cafe in Marlow at the Pugin Rooms off St Peter Street. It was a great success and we had plans to build on it in the future, indeed today would have been our second Café that we would have held there. So much has happened of course in the interim, with all the disruption and changes. Along with many other events, today’s Café quite rightly had to be cancelled.
MMDF going forward
As with all organisations and businesses, we have needed to respond and adapt with the developing COVID-19 crisis. So rather than planning the next Café, the MMDF Café team has been following up with companion calls to all participants. Until we can resume building on our ‘normal’ schedule of activities, we are looking at other ways where we can offer support through MMDF, backed up by our host Rotary Club, Marlow Bridge. One area being explored is linking up with the NHS Volunteer Responders Project and the good news is that the local hub has now been opened up for Marlow. We look forward to working closely with the hub manager, Jacqueline Ford and the team, we will communicate more news on this and other initiatives as matters develop.
MMDF committee meetings
As with most organisations, to help adapt and to move matters forward, our Steering Committee is now meeting on-line each week. This way all our members can keep in touch and continue the lines of communication needed to ensure that our work to make Marlow dementia friendly is not too significantly impacted.
In addition to the most important aspects of seeing what support and help can be given now, we are also mindful to look for what happens beyond the C-19 crisis. Before the ‘shutdown’ our second Dementia Friends Champions Induction Day was held at Liston Hall in Marlow. Over 20 new dementia champions were trained up to deliver Dementia Friends Information Sessions and also become local ambassadors. When it is right and proper to do so, we look forward to Dementia Friends Information Sessions being booked in again at Cliveden Manor and also at other locations across Marlow, including within businesses and organisations. This applies of course to the entire wide range of other events that MMDF contributes to and participates in.
We shall continue to post up progress on MMDF on social media and our web site. Please do follow us on Facebook and Twitter and register on the site to receive updates.
We very much appreciate all of the support we receive for MMDF and we look forward to working wider and more amplified going forward.
